Itinerary

Saturday

Meeting at Jiantan MRT Station Exit 2 (劍潭站) @ 06:00 (AM)

Begin our journey towards the heart of Taiwan’s mesmerising Central Mountain Range down in Nantou County, eat lunch whilst gazing up at north east Asia’s grandest mountains with Yushan / 玉山 occupying your entire view southward!

Meet our local off-road driver in his 4WD truck to begin the hair raising ascent towards our camp for the night, relax near a log fire and watch the stars...

Sunday

Begin hiking a few hours before sunrise carrying just a small lightweight backpack, keep an eye out for Formosan Sambar deer / 水鹿 along with Reeves's muntjac / 山羌 as we will pass near multiple watering holes. Reach Junda’s main peak (3,278m / 10,750ft) to watch daybreak over the island... perhaps the spectacular show known as the ‘sea of clouds’ plays out for us too!

Eat breakfast and drink tea or coffee whilst soaking up the high mountain vibes, views are outstanding so we’ll spend plenty of time up on the summit, it’s possible to take a short nap in the shade before heading back down to the trailhead.

Head to a local restaurant for lunch before making our way back north, aiming for 20:00 (PM) back at Jiantan station

Jundashan is one of the famous ‘100 peaks of Taiwan’, locally known as the Băiyuè (百岳).
